# Hostereo

> Hostereo (by Interhost Networks) is a cloud VPS provider with datacenters in Tel Aviv and Amsterdam. Every server has a 10 Gbps port with unmetered traffic, hourly or monthly billing, and can be created and managed by AI agents through a public REST API and an MCP server. One API key per customer account.

## For AI agents: fastest path to a running server

1. The human signs up at https://console.hostereo.com/register (free account, email verification). Agent-guided signup: https://www.hostereo.com/ai/#register
2. In the console, Account -> API Keys: create a key (format `hst_live_...`). Keys are bound to the source IP addresses you allow and can be scoped to `instances:read`, `instances:write`, `operations:read`.
3. Call the API with `X-Api-Key: hst_live_...` (or `Authorization: Bearer`). Base URL: https://api-public.hostereo.com/api/v1
4. Or run the MCP server and let the agent use tools: `npm install -g https://www.hostereo.com/downloads/hostereo-mcp-latest.tgz` then `hostereo-mcp` with env `HOSTEREO_API_KEY`.

## Key facts for agents

- Catalogue endpoints need no key: GET /v1/regions, /v1/plans, /v1/images, /v1/applications, /v1/catalog
- Every id is a public UUID from the catalogue. Regions: `tlv-dc-1` (Tel Aviv), `ams-dc-1` / `ams-dc-2` (Amsterdam).
- POST /v1/instances creates a server (requires `Idempotency-Key` header). Send `"dry_run": true` first: all checks run, nothing is created or charged.
- Billing: `prepaid_monthly` (default, paid from the account balance) or `postpaid` (billed monthly in arrears, hourly metering).
- Mutations return 202 with an operation; poll GET /v1/operations/{id} until `status` is `success` or `error`, honouring `Retry-After`.
- Deleting a server is not possible through the API (console only). Disks never shrink on resize.
- Errors: `{"error":{"code","message","status"}}`; codes are stable (e.g. `insufficient_balance`, `instance_limit_reached`, `invalid_state`, `rate_limit_exceeded`).
